Multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, and multi-lingual, Malaysia is an excellent choice for meeting the healthcare needs of international medical tourism patients. Like India, the government of Malaysia has also established a national goal of becoming the future hub for treating international health tourism patients from around the world. This Southeast Asian nation neighboring Thailand has a multitude of world-class hospitals that have been attracting foreign medical travel patients for years. Being a former British Colony, English is spoken everywhere.

The favorable exchange rate of the US Dollar to the Malaysian Ringgit (RM) makes the already low cost medical treatment an incredible value to medical tourists. Many of the private hospitals in Malaysia are also applying for JCI Accreditation in order to attract more international patients. Our partner hospitals in Malaysia are either already JCI accredited, or are in their final stages, are American managed, or are sponsored by some of the largest American companies.

Country Information

Malaysia is an exciting, friendly and hassle-free destination. For Americans who have never visited Southeast Asia, this is a great "starter country" because of how easy it is for tourists to navigate Malaysia's friendly lands. Its pluralist culture comes from a beautiful fusion of Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous cultures and customs.

Malaysians love Western-style industrial development and you will find this in her large cities. Yet, in addition to the modern towers of glass and steel, Malaysia offers peaceful beaches and national parks that are amongst the finest on earth. [top]

Language

Although Malay is the national language, English is widely spoken in both tourist and business environments throughout Malaysia. [top]

Religion

Malaysia as a country is 52% Muslim, 17% Buddhist, 12% Taoist, 8% Christian, 8% Hindu, 2% tribal, although Penang is populated by 70% Chinese of different religions. [top]

Climate

Expect sunshine! Malaysia is hot and often humid for the majority of the year. If you want to enjoy the beaches, it is best to avoid the November to January rainy season on Peninsula Malaysia's east coast. The best time to take in Malaysia's famous turtles on the eastern coast is between May and September. [top]

Clothing

Light clothes are suggested, though fine dining restaurants will expect appropriate attire. Be careful not to wear beach clothing into dining establishments that are not directly on the beach, as much of these items are considered inappropriate. [top]

Mobile Phones

A Subscriber Identity Module Card (SIM Card) is now available for Malaysian and foreign customers who are traveling around for work. The SIM Card must be used in conjunction with a Digital GSM mobile phone within the 900-MHz range or a Digital PCN mobile phone within the 1800-MHz range. [top]

Getting Online & Checking E-mail

All of Malaysia's leading hotels offer facsimile (fax) and e-mail services. Numerous private businesses offer such facilities, most often in conjunction with translation services. Malaysia has been expanding its information service for residents and tourists alike through the Internet system. Services are now available at Malaysia's leading hotels and at the many "cyber cafés" that are cropping up in all major tourist destinations. [top]
